My Take on Mobile Photography.

We live in this age where things are digitized day by day. The gadget you bought last month will be outdated by next month. The same applies to the cameras. There are people afraid to buy a new professional camera even if they could afford it just because there will be another updated version of it within the next 6 months or so.They're in the fear of having an outdated gear that doesn't meet the features of a flagship version. In photography the change is happening real fast over the recent years. Now we all have the freedom and possibility to convey the message through pixels. While debating about DSLRs vs Mirror less cameras we can't just ignore the pixel stories that comes out of mobile devices. Even though they can't meet the specs of DSLRs they have some advantages of their own.

When i was studying photography i had hard time discovering framing. At those times i used to shot pictures with my mobile device and i was able to make some good pictures with it. In fact the pictures i shot using mobile were better than that of the pictures i made with DSLR.
It took me a while to realize the reason behind it and later it helped to see things better before pressing the shutter.

There are few factors which made mobile photography easier.

Compactness:
You can have 'em in your pocket and you can draw it out anytime to capture the moment. We have fast keys to launch the camera application without unlocking the phone. Since they're flat they could easily fit in your hands which makes you to move around and find some perspectives.
They're small and that makes you to capture some candid frames without the subject's attention.
There won't be any problem to carry mobile in some places where as the DSLRs requires some special permissions to carry them in places like railway stations.

The Depth:
A fine day evening in hometown.
Some people likes to shoot pictures which has full depth through out the image. Its not possible with DSLRs to produce such a depth without increasing the f number all the time which make the mobile devices special. For the bokeh heads out there there is a solution too.
Functions like portrait mode gives the shallow depth effect as we get in DSLRs while shooting in maximum apertures.

The 'Pro' Mode:
Some people likes to go manual and to take control over the situations.Right from the Focus, Shutter Speed, WB, ISO and much more things can be control manually as we can do in the DSLRs.
Devices like One Plus 3T has the ability to open 30s which opens gate to long exposure photography.
The manual focusing allows us to go into macro sizes and to explore the world of Lilliput.

Metering:
Macro Shot - Manually Focused
Its the best part in Mobile photography. It offers both evaluative and spot metering options. A simple touch is all required to meter, focus and to capture a subject! Brilliant isn't it? Spot metering is my favorite because it gives you the pleasing contrast images.
I use the exposure compensation dials all the time to get the desired exposure.

Above all the processing made easy by the applications like Snapseed. You can

test the dynamic range factor by pushing up the shadow pixels. Its really surprising to see how much of details can be recovered from the shadow regions even though its shot by a mid range mobile device. I own a lenovo k6 and it makes brilliant quality of pictures than other competitors in its market.

Being a professional photographer doesn't mean that one should shoot only with DSLRs. For me mobile devices are the ones that helps me to stay motivated by experimenting new stuffs. There is eventually a picture everywhere but you can not carry the cameras everywhere.

And finally, they are just devices and you are the one who got the finger on the button(shutter)! Parker pen or ball point pen it doesn't matter if you got the hell of a story to write.

So lets forget the medium and enjoy making stories.
